From the publisher’s description:

This full color reference book is an entertaining and informative look at contemporary struggles for independence around the world. The separatist, nationalist, and independence movements described range from serious and violent to cheeky and imaginative, collectively revealing the passion that people feel about their identity and roots in a globalized world. This book will be a pleasure to anyone who is fascinated by geography and the world's cultures. The author's depth of knowledge and sense of humor are a unique combination. Includes maps and illustrations.
Chris Roth is a social-cultural and linguistic anthropologist with an interest in the symbolic politics of nationalism and ethnicity. He has worked extensively with indigenous groups in northern British Columbia and southeast Alaska and is the author of an ethnography of the Tsimshian Nation. He has also done research with and about New Age and paranormal subcultures in the U.S. and elsewhere.

  1. Have just bought the Book, 'LET'S SPLIT'.... It is without a doubt, the most wonderful, marvellous, most fantastic volume I have ever bought..... Positively orgasmic! It is unlike anything that has gone before, and I have no doubt it will become the definitive work in this field. I have so much paperwork at home; lists of entities, territorial micronations, de facto states, autonomous provinces, nations seeking independence, UNPO states etc in the hope that one day I might have written such a work. I am lost in admiration of you Chris, and can only thank you for providing such a wondrous tome. Brilliant! Fabulous!....there are insufficient superlatives with which to describe this truly great book! .......Didn't see the Yezidi flag though....... only kidding. You confirmed the fact that Goust has no flag ... although I have designed one....... Regards, Mick Baker

    1. Thanks for your kind words!

The Yezidi autonomy movement emerged after the book's manuscript was finished and before it was printed, so it just missed being included. Likewise, the Kingdom of North Sudan and the "Sovereign California" movement. I guess there'll just have to be an updated edition at some point.
