They could make travelling to Bir Tawil very awkward......if they bother.Mick Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08157630654333854708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-389121945571056758.post-82305292880922726402014-07-29T13:52:15.052-05:002014-07-29T13:52:15.052-05:00Michael,

As long as he doesn't interfere with them - say, by building a wall to stop their migration - they'll probably just ignore him. It does mean he'll have to refrain from using all the territory, yes, but I don't think he'll be needing to any time soon.

Still, the neighbours aren't the best ones a country could have, and it won't surprise me if there are incursions by non-state actors. Personally, I believe the only serious contenders are the two that have minted their own coins and the guy from Virginia, who has at least travelled to the territory and planted his flag. One wonders how long it will be before a Sudanese or Egyptian military force appears to 'ceremonially tear down' the flag of North Sudan - in the manner of the Tongan navy and the Republic of Minerva!Mick Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08157630654333854708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-389121945571056758.post-91164216301019953682014-07-20T18:43:49.926-05:002014-07-20T18:43:49.926-05:00Chris, I know very little really. Like you, I am fascinated by all these quirky little facts, about micronations, separatist states etc. I first came across the Grand Dukedom of Bir Tawil when I ordered a coin from there from Chiefa Coins.(a 10 pecunias piece, dated 2010) The info I quoted above is from that site. I have since found that another coin - a 50 piastres piece, an 8-sided coin - and marked 'Bir Tawil Terra Nullius', is also available. This latter would seem to be from a separate entity. The only mention of the other micronational projects that I have come across was the one to which I referred in my last post. That's not counting this latest 'Kingdom' (N.Sudan) I would guess that King Jeremiah is the only one to have actually been there to plant his flag, which by the way, is the third flag of the area that I have seen. You show one in your blog above. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Mick Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08157630654333854708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-389121945571056758.post-76297426513168869012014-07-20T09:56:51.467-05:002014-07-20T09:56:51.467-05:00Michael, thank you for that information! Do you know if any of these other claimants have planted flags or otherwise created facts on the ground (i.e. been to the place), or are they fanciful or tongue-in-cheek Web projects? Just curious.Chris Rothhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06344656092851347185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-389121945571056758.post-87320256950883845522014-07-20T09:41:39.544-05:002014-07-20T09:41:39.544-05:00I think this latest 'Monarch' has missed t...I think this latest 'Monarch' has missed the boat somewhat. Check out the Grand Dukedom of Bir Tawil - founded January 2010 - the only claimant to have produced coins, although I have seen two very different issues. Archduke Talbot found out about this land, and laid claim to it. Unfortunately a few other micro-nations have also claimed the same unclaimed territory, including the Kingdom of Bir Tawil, the Republic of Bir Tawil, the Empire of Bir Tawil, the Emirate of Bir Tawil and the Duchy of Coqueland. I have seen at least three flags purporting to be from Bir Tawil. Mick Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08157630654333854708noreply@blogger.com
